Using modern technology, analysis has been carried out on the number of women seen (and heard) in film. Unsurprisingly, it's a lot lower than their male counterparts.

I thought we might enjoy a civil discussion on the topic.

We've already boiled communication down to acronyms, emoticons and shrtnd sntnces, all of which are simply more efficient ways of transmitting the PLEASE AUTHENTICATE MY EXISTENCE signal from the fragile core of our souls out into the wider world. Maybe the next stage is to reduce it all down to a single noise. I'd favour a short, electronic beep, not unlike the noise emitted each time Pac-Man eats a dot.

Its a good start but lets see if we can lower the representation of women a bit more... specifically making sure they do less complicated, degree requiring jobs in films.

With men making up a mere 35 percent of those getting degrees today, I would say feminism (which is of course all about equality) has a moral imperative to further lower the representation of women with higher education in media.

Wyzrd, this is a consistent and repeated error that you keep making. I've tried to let it go, but I don't think I can any more.

It should be "fewer", not "less".

Depends whether he meant that they should do fewer of the complicated degree-requiring jobs, or jobs that require less complicated degrees, no?

I meant less complicated.

As in "assign that person a less complicated task".

But otherwise carry on:

My view is... who cares? Male or female, actors and actresses get their roles according to the movie; or if the producer/director/whoever thinks they can genderbend a roles gender to be the opposite.

As an audience member, I only really care if the people playing the parts play them convincingly, thereby entertaining me.

Of course, I'll get flamebroiled for this by a couple people here, and that's okay.

That's not to say I don't care about inequity in the genders in societal norms; I just don't think it applies quite so much to the roles in films and tv shows for the people playing parts.

Simpler, degree requiring jobs makes no sense, either grammatically or in context.

This is clearly a cover-up, guys.

I SAY WOMEN PORN-STARS GET PAID WAY TOO MUCH THEN THEIR MALE COUNTER PARTS! WE NEED TO STOP THIS AT ONCE! THEY HOG ALL THE SCREEN TIME!

You should look up the Bechdel Test and see if that is valid or not.

Things to consider

1) 52% of the movie goers are female.

2) Women tend to berate each other then males.

3) Females become vicious to each other during early years.

4) PMS - (See above and google it and read the study)

5) Pink is feminine (Unless your a pally; then real men wear pink)

6) Figure A.

7) Figure B.

While I'll join you solidly in the 'who cares' camp, I think it's pretty obvious that which roles get written for which gender and which movies actually get made is deeply sexist in nature. Generally, men get most of the money, take most of the lead roles, get most of the action star or comedy star roles, etc. Women get being fucked on camera for money and romantic comedies. And hey, sexism killed my dream of banging beautiful women for money just as surely as it killed plenty of women's dreams of being action heroes. It's not all sunshine and rainbows for dudes either.

Still, doesn't hurt to acknowledge what's going on - even if women won't pay to see female action leads.

Consider yourself appointed. As the ranking forum lawyer, you're clearly the best choice.

An excellent choice!

I'm hereby subpoenaing any tapes that may have been made when that post was written.
