So it looks like the UK will beat the US to being the Orwellian nightmare we're both heading toward. It's a fresh story so I'm going to keep an eye out for more information on this, but from what I've read, it's terrifying.

Bottom line seems to be that it gives the government unbridled powers to remove anything they deem "offensive".

I'm pretty sure the UK has been leading that race for a long ass time. So it's starting to seem like the Tory government watched V for Vendetta and used it as a playbook?

I hear Canada is nice this time of year ;)

I lurk, therefore I am.

On the other hand, it seems that they've caused a surge in support for Labour.

Technically it was just a ban on it being filmed, but it was really stupid.

Dual citizen, so yes partially. Ethnically, (which is all chinese people really care about), I'm about English and Scottish in roughly equal parts with a tiny dash of french and welsh in there.

Other things they crack a lot of jokes about? The current state of londinistan.

They find that seriously hilarious.

Their compatriots have no problem in buying up all the London property...

We've already boiled communication down to acronyms, emoticons and shrtnd sntnces, all of which are simply more efficient ways of transmitting the PLEASE AUTHENTICATE MY EXISTENCE signal from the fragile core of our souls out into the wider world. Maybe the next stage is to reduce it all down to a single noise. I'd favour a short, electronic beep, not unlike the noise emitted each time Pac-Man eats a dot.

Yeah. But they mostly live here.

Chinese people really like buying property as investments. Its a cultural thing.

And theres a lot of chinese money to go around it seems in spite of currency controls which they tend to ignore totally.

Good thing they aren't currency manipulators anymore!

Back to the topic:

Sad, but not surprising. Don't forget that Ms. May's history as Home Secretary involved quite a few attempts to ruin the internet on the grounds of national security (see, for example, all the Snoopers Charter stuff).

The "L" stands for "Value".

Nobody can hear the sarcasm in your voice when you type. Which is why they invented teal.

Having lived in B.C. for a year now, can confirm. They're driving the housing market prices through the roof.
